Product Description

High Temperature Polyimide Adhesive Tape (30mm x 30m) - Thermal Protection

Description

The polyimide adhesive tape, often referred to as Kapton, is one of the most critical consumables for any technician practicing micro-soldering and motherboard repair. Thanks to its exceptional physical properties, this tape can withstand temperatures exceeding 260°C without degrading. It serves as a protective thermal barrier during hot air operations (reballing, IC chip replacement) by masking fragile components and plastic connectors near the heating area, thus preventing irreparable collateral damage.

Its generous width of 30mm allows for quickly covering large sections of PCB, securing passive components (resistors, capacitors) against accidental displacement caused by the airflow from the soldering station. In addition to its thermal resistance, this tape has excellent electrical and chemical insulation capabilities, making it ideal for securing flexible cables (FPC), isolating test points, or protecting batteries against potential short circuits during voltage testing.

The silicone adhesive used on this tape has been formulated to leave no sticky residue after removal, even after being exposed to high heat. Its extreme thinness allows for precise application without adding unnecessary thickness, facilitating work under a microscope. Resistant to wear and tear, this 30-meter roll is a durable and versatile investment for all precision electronic insulation and protection work.

Workshop & Usage Advice

When removing an integrated circuit (IC), apply the tape to the surrounding components slightly overlapping onto the PCB for maximum adhesion. For even more effective thermal protection on ultra-sensitive areas (such as the processor or NAND memory), you can layer aluminum tape over the polyimide tape: the polyimide will serve as an electrical insulator while the aluminum will reflect heat. Be sure to firmly press the tape with a flat spatula to eliminate air bubbles that could expand under heat.
